Happy Valley is a BBC One drama set in West Yorkshire following the story of police sergeant Catherine Cawood played by Sarah Lancashire who encounters troubles both at home and on the beat making it compulsive viewing. The series was brilliantly written by Sally Wainwright.
This remarkable series has definitely raised the bar for TV drama.
Sarah Lancashire’s unflinching performance as Catherine Cawood was jaw- droppingly skillful, oozing with so much depth and complexity which was for me totally sublime, if she does not win a BAFTA for her performance as she did for series 1, I would be very un-impressed. She is undoubtedly one of our best great British Actresses.
So now we all know the answers to the questions that have kept us viewers hooked to this amazing series for the last six weeks.
There were several plots running through the series ranging from blackmail to rape then murders through to insest, which all made for some shocking twists and turns and I can hardly believe it’s over.
After, the second series ended last night with Catherine Cawood looking at her grandson Ryan as he played on the hills of the Calder Valley. Not knowing whether or not he would turn out like his psychopathic murdering father, this made shivers go down my spine.
My Tuesday night’s won’t be the same again now the series has finished, well done BBC, you got it so right.
